When Vintage Goes Off The Deep End

Nearly a $1,000 for a cardboard box?

Vintage instrument prices have gone sky high in recent years with some instruments costing as much as buying a four bedroom house.  And some of theses can be throughly beat up with damage to the finish, rusted metal parts and cracks.

But a new low has been set on the popular instrument and gear seller Reverb, with the posting of a 1960’s Martin guitar cardboard shopping box.  Price:  $999.99 plus $100 for shipping.  Wow!  Can an empty cardboard box really cost $100 to ship?  That is what UPS charges me to ship a large box with something actually in it.

The $999.99 box is rare you know, hence the exorbitant price.  Probably would be for fools with cash to burn. Might high to think for that price the box is not even mint with separation issues and two missing flaps.  I smell a rat here.

The seller, Izzy's Vintage Guitars apparently now specializes in vintage shipping boxes now too.

Oh think what one could out of that name!  Izzy nuts?  Izzy trying to rip people off (kinda)?  Izzy one round short of a full clip?  Most assured!

Well, the link is included for all you big Cash Daddies out there.  Maybe you can buy it, refurbish it some and then sell it for a more reasonable price.  Say, $2000?  Whatever the market allows.
